About IECNY & IEC National
IECNY is the New York State Chapter of Independent Electrical Contractor's Inc. IECNY's territory is the entire state of New York, with headquarters in Buffalo, NY.
The Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) is a nonprofit trade association federation with 53 educational campuses and affiliate local chapters across the country. IEC represents about 3,500 member businesses that employ over 80,000 electrical and systems workers throughout the United States and educates over 12,000 electricians and systems professionals each year through world-class training programs. IEC contractor member companies are some of the premier firms in the industry responsible for over $8.5B in gross revenue annually.
Founded in 1957 as the Associated Independent Electrical Contractors of America, the primary goal of the group was to consider and deal by all lawful means with common problems of management, distribution, employment, and financial functions of the electrical construction industry; to foster cooperative action in advancing the common purposes of its members; and promote activities that enable the industry to be conducted with the greatest economy and efficiency.
The association's first offices were located in Texas. In 1962, IEC was granted a certificate of incorporation. IEC convinced the U.S. Department of Labor to adopt national pattern standards of Apprenticeship and Training. And for the first time, registered apprenticeship was recognized across the country for those adopting the "Open Shop" philosophy.
